Yuiko Amano is a Japanese conceptual multimedia practitioner based in London, with a distinctive background in science, engineering, and architecture. Born in 1990 in Tsukuba City to a family of scientists, she spent her early life between the United States and Japan. Initially pursuing physics and natural sciences, she later studied civil engineering in Kyoto and worked in research and development, focusing on observational instruments, data analysis, and acoustic engineering.

Her artistic journey began in early childhood through drawing, writing, and digital illustration, leading to formal art training from a young age and early recognition through awards and exhibitions. By the 2010s, she was actively exhibiting in Kyoto and later expanded internationally, participating in major art fairs and exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, including prestigious venues such as the Saatchi Gallery, Carousel du Louvre, and Venice Biennale-related sites.

After relocating to London, she studied architecture and fine art at the Royal College of Art, where her practice evolved toward conceptual and interdisciplinary work encompassing moving image, sound, performance, interactive objects, and site-specific research. During the Covid lockdown, she released a music album and published short stories, and her RCA thesis received distinction.

Recognised by Arts Council England in 2024, she was granted a UK Global Talent visa. Now based in Blackheath, London, her work continues to bridge art, science, and philosophy, earning international awards including the Lorenzo il Magnifico Award at Florence Biennale XV in 2025.

Later, she pursued urban design at a School of Architecture in London, conducting in-depth architectural case studies that explored regional planning, spatial design, and collective housing. These diverse fields collectively inform the conceptual framework behind her work.

In her homeware creations, Amano draws extensively on architectural and engineering methodologies, translating environmental and spatial data into functional yet aesthetically integrated objects. Her designs incorporate regional GIS data provided by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, alongside architectural tools such as 3D CAD modeling, matrix diagrams, and typological analysis. This process transforms numerical data into forms that harmonize visually and tactically with the domestic environment. By approaching homeware not merely as utilitarian objects but as extensions of the terrain and architectural space, she explores new relationships between landscape, structure, and everyday life, offering innovative ways to experience and inhabit the living environment."
