Victoria Ushkanova (b. 1977)
A Dutch artist of Chechen origin, Victoria works with photography and video as her primary tools of artistic expression. Through portraiture, she seeks to convey depth—capturing the elusive and uncertain aspects of a person’s presence.
She studied media performance at MMOMA, and her personal performance Artist’s Body was presented as part of the 3rd Moscow International Young Art Biennale in 2012.

This exploration of the female body stemmed from her Typology project, a series of video portraits of young women, which was shown as part of the parallel programme at UNSEEN Amsterdam in 2015.

Her artistic journey also includes studying fine arts at an art academy and cinematography at VGIK.
Victoria is currently embracing a new chapter—both personally and artistically. Her ongoing divorce, now lasting a year and a half, has prompted a deeper reflection on the role of women in society, where sexism persists even today.
In search of new artistic freedom, Victoria has returned to drawing, a passion she has held since childhood. Her fast, expressive sketches of nude women—capturing dance, movement, and the raw energy of life—symbolise the inner strength and freedom of women.
An artist exploring humanity through portrait photography, video, and drawing, with a primary focus on the study of women—the female body and feminine energy. Through these dimensions, she examines both herself and the role of women on Earth.
