SOPHIE DURANDET CERAMICS

“FORMS OF REVERENCE”
2026

Sophie Durandet is a ceramic artist based in London whose practice centres on angular, wheel-thrown forms and bold geometric surfaces. Working with partial glazing and exposed clay, her work investigates the relationship between structure and decoration, creating a dialogue between raw material and graphic pattern. Since beginning her practice in 2021, she has developed a restrained, design-led approach defined by rhythm, contrast and subtle perceptual shifts across the surface.

Her ceramics are characterised by clarity of form and a careful balance between geometry and material presence. Through considered composition and controlled glazing, each piece holds a tension between architectural structure and graphic expression. Sophie is listed in the Crafts Council Directory, where her work can be found for commissions, collaborations and special projects.

Sophie Durandet’s practice centres on the relationship between form and surface through angular, wheel-thrown vessels. Exposed clay and selective glazing establish measured contrasts between material and geometry. Surface is treated as integral to structure, guiding rhythm, proportion and visual weight rather than acting as decoration.

Restrained palettes and repeated linear elements subtly shift how volume is perceived. Her work is grounded in clarity, balance and material presence, allowing construction and surface to operate as one. Each piece maintains a deliberate tension between precision and tactility, questioning the boundary between structure and ornament.
