Kwon Soonho is a Seoul-based artist and metalsmith born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metal Craft from Seoul National University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in the same field. Working primarily through wax and metal casting, his practice explores how intangible experiences and sensations can be translated into physical form.
His exhibition record includes participation in and co-curation of ""Seoul,"" the graduation exhibition of Seoul National University; ""Dogani (melting pot),"" the first joint exhibition between Hongik University and Seoul National University; ""0–2,"" a follow-up exhibition tracing the lives of SNU graduates after their graduation exhibition; and ""ON&ON,"" a sales exhibition.
"Some experiences resist language—they can only be held.
My work often begins with an attraction that I cannot fully explain. Rather than starting from a fixed narrative or concept, I follow intuitive responses to form, material, and sensation. Through a sequence of small decisions, shapes gradually emerge, accumulating like marks in a drawing. I think of making as a process of giving presence to things that are difficult to articulate. What fascinates me most is the moment of casting, when a temporary wax form is transformed into metal. At that moment, something that existed only as a sensation, impression, or impulse acquires physical weight and permanence.
Through vessels and sculptural object, I create works that invite viewers to encounter them through curiosity, perception, and sensory experience before searching for explanation."
