SHERRY CORDOVA

“CODE&CRAFT” - ENCODED BODIES
2025

Sherry Cordova alloys her reverence for all marine beings with technology, wearability, sustainability, and traditional metalsmithing via her Marine Fauna Meets Industrial design language and artistic processes. California based, she exhibits her contemporary jewelry internationally.

Sherry’s wearable art highlights the profound impact of human actions on our seas. She masterfully deconstructs and transforms intricate drawings of microscopic marine life into stunning layered designs. With a commitment to sustainability, her design language alloys technology, beauty, and wearability to honor delicate ocean creatures. Industrial stainless steel fasteners unite the layers in her creations, giving life to metallic versions of marine beings and their scientific drawings. Each piece is a reminder that our choices resonate far beyond our immediate environment, affecting even the smallest life forms.

Plankton Bracelet Series

Species of plankton, important in global oxygen production and the marine food chain, are represented in thin layers of low-tarnish sterling silver and pure titanium in the Plankton Bracelet series. Hand-drawn illustrations of the microscopic marine creatures are transformed into wearable art highlighting the fragility and beauty of marine life. Humankind’s changes to microscopic marine life are represented via CAD software changes to their morphology and the use industrially produced fasteners. The bracelets are a fusion of traditional metal art techniques and technology: hand drawing, re-drawing within CAD software, laser cutting and hand finishing.
