PAOLA ZOCCARATO
Cluster Exhibitor | Cluster Illustration | Alternative Fair 2021
Paola Zoccarato is an Illustrator & designer based in Italy and Cyprus.
Her work aims to capture the essence of the images that surround her. The images are connected to an idea of nature which is mother and which represents a possible positive response to the current crisis of reference values.
Through the reworked images of the idea of mother-nature, the predominantly female characters transfigure their anthropomorphic features and tend to liberate the idea of themselves.
Paola Zoccarato, Italian, has a degree in Architecture from the University of Venice.
She worked as an architect for many years but now She decided to travel and live between Italy and Cyprus, where She stays on a sailing boat, in the Karpaz Peninsula in the far north of Cyprus.
Drawing is her passion and She does it mainly for fun. She worked before with two artist and teachers brother in Sicily: Giovanni and Leonardo Fisco.
She presents herself in this animated drawing: her atelier is a small place overlooking the sea with her main means of transport: a sailboat and a plane.
That is why the sea, often appears in her drawings, such as in: Wave upon wave and Sunrise.
A path of simplification of the forms, subtraction of unnecessary elements, to define the essence and beauty of the forms.
She starts work with quick sketches, using various techniques, which She then import into drawing software on the tablet.
She represents the idea of nature-mother with female characters (Indian summer): in this case it is the woman who is called to generate life as well as nature, fragile and strong at the same time, called to defend the continuation of the expression of the world (see the series of images: Fragile world) and Woman as the centre of the universe (Universe inside). But also a little girl wearing a little red dress (She dedicates this series of drawings to her mother) and representing that part of the female self of tenderness, determination, dream (see: the great escape).
