LUC NIJMAN — ADVANCE LAB
“CODE&CRAFT” - ENCODED BODIES
2025
Luc Nijman (b. 2001) is a French designer, entrepreneur, and artist whose practice bridges digital aesthetics and material experimentation. Entrepreneur and creator since the age of 16, he began his explorations in fashion before pursuing formal design training in Paris while remaining largely self-taught. Always inclined to bypass traditional schooling and professional structures, he developed a mature artistic vision around the age of 22, continuing a trajectory of multidisciplinary projects ever since.
Based in France, he works across branding, typography, motion design, and industrial design, transforming ideas into bold and precise visual narratives. In 2025, he founded Advance Lab, a platform that extends his digital practice into physical objects. By merging graphic design principles with product design, he creates functional jewellery and objects that embody clarity, impact, and conceptual rigor. At only 24, Luc Nijman represents a new generation of designers redefining how digital culture informs contemporary craft, consistently exploring the intersections of technology, materiality, and artistic experimentation.
Artist Statement
My practice explores how visual language can move seamlessly between digital and physical media. Rooted in clarity, precision, and immediacy, I reject unnecessary ornament or abstraction, favouring designs that communicate with visceral impact. Guided by a post-symbolic philosophy, I aim to return to authenticity and simplicity: creating work that is immediately accessible, functional, and honest, yet layered with intention.
I view design as both communication and experience—its role is to speak directly to the human body and mind, without requiring mediation or academic decoding. Whether in typography, motion design, or jewellery, my goal is to produce work that resonates instantly while reflecting contemporary life, embracing materials and forms for what they do rather than what they symbolize. Post-symbolism liberates my practice from inherited hierarchies and cultural pretense, focusing on human needs, interaction, and genuine experience.
Through Advance Lab, I investigate how graphic design principles can shape three-dimensional form. Each piece becomes a site of experimentation—where digital logic, industrial processes, and materiality intersect. The result is a collection of functional yet expressive objects that enhance daily life while embodying a post-symbolic sensibility: honest, accessible, and rooted in the realities of contemporary culture.
Advance Lab Project Statement
Advance Lab is an experimental platform where graphic design evolves into tangible form. The collection translates principles of typography and composition into wearable objects and accessories, merging precision with material exploration. Guided by post-symbolism, each object is designed for clarity, function, and authenticity—materials are chosen for what they do, not for inherited symbolic value.
Working with specialized manufacturers, I employ contemporary production methods to create limited editions that combine digital sensibility with craftsmanship. Each release functions as both a practical accessory and a design statement—objects that are immediate, functional, visually striking, and accessible.
Advance Lab reflects my commitment to expanding design practice beyond the screen, creating work that exists at the intersection of code, craft, and body, while embracing a post-symbolic ethos: design for life as it is lived today, honest and unpretentious.
