LOULOU ELLIOTT
Cluster Exhibitor | Cluster Illustration | Alternative Fair 2021
Loulou Elliott is a London-based illustrator who creates paintings that focus on nature, travel and escapism under the pseudonym ‘illoustration’.
Nature and experiencing the outside world greatly influence Loulou; she is often inspired by places, walks and glimpses of mundane things.
Drawing in traditional media is important to her as a tactile way of recording her version of the world around her.
Since graduating from the University of Westminster in 2018, Loulou has exhibited with the AOI and theprintspace, presented work in a London Pop Up, and initiated a collaborative zine with 15 other artists. Presently she is working on a series of new prints and some speculative editorial pieces with hopes to further her ambitions to work for more and larger magazines.
Loulou Elliott is an illustrator and painter of nature, landscapes and spaces. Through her minimalistic paintings, she aims to share the universal feeling of solitude, and a desire for rest and rumination. Her work is gentle and evocative, capturing the gap in the busy lives of people - a moment of tranquility and contemplation. Small people and objects dwarfed by their surroundings feature in many of her artworks, as a reminder of how small we are in the universe.
Vibrant colour and minimalistic composition and shape is important to Loulou as a means of visually representing feeling. Her work is simple yet meticulous. She mostly paints with gouache and acrylic on paper and canvas; she loves the organic feeling of brushing paint on paper and the tactility of traditional artwork. Her paintings are small and intimate at an average size of 6"x4", the smallest being mere inches ('Tiny Paintings').
She has recently been experimenting with various comic-style layouts in pencil and gouache, the prior being a softer medium leading itself more to poeticism. She is always interested in experimental narrative visuals and pushing boundaries between art forms.
