Laura Mestre often uses symbols, colors and composition to convey her ideas and feelings. Simplification is a powerful tool that she uses to communicate complex ideas and concepts. Among the symbols that she usually uses, we can find skulls, flowers, hands and animals (especially horses), to represent fear, life and ego, to name but a few.

Much of her work talks about topics such as anxiety or depression, but by relating it to a learning process and personal growth, she tries to turn them into something positive. To do so, she uses a strong color palette to make her illustrations cheerful and aesthetically beautiful. Her aim is to connect with the spectator and send both, the spectator and herself, a message of overcoming and positivity.
