KUNIKO MAEDA

10 YEARS CLUSTER CRAFTS “MATERIAL MEMORY”
2026

Kuniko Maeda is a Japanese artist based in London. She has held a deep admiration for Japanese craftsmanship since childhood, leading her to study traditional Japanese wood carving in Kyoto for two years before moving to London. Immersed in the city’s cultural diversity and values, she forged a new creative direction that combines traditional craft with contemporary experimentation.

Maeda later gained both BA and MA degrees in Textile Design from Chelsea College of Arts. Her artistic practice reflects a passion for exploring the unique properties and potential of materials, while incorporating traditional Japanese craft techniques alongside digital tools.

Her concept for long-lasting paper was presented for the Lexus Design Award 2017 at Milan Design Week, and her artwork was selected by Ateliers d’Art de France as a signature piece for Révélations 2023.
