Joseph Robinson is a Contemporary Artist Blacksmith who creates industrially inspired tabletop sculptures using precision forging, bending and industrial connections. He draws inspiration from industrial infrastructure such as blast furnaces, pipelines and the skeletal frames of pylons and water towers that can be found all around England. Joseph aims to celebrate the overlooked and discarded utilitarian look of industrial infrastructure as well as blend it with an artistic twist.

Through maquetting and testing he develops his designs into ones that he finds captures the stimuli the best. He then begins forging the elements one by one, making sure that they are all up to a high standard before he begins connecting them together. This, in turn, creates a flowing sculpture that captures the overlooked elegance of industrial forms while also creating its own custom piece of blacksmithing sculpture that can be viewed and celebrated for years to come.

‘Industry Interwoven’ is a utilitarian inspired collection of tabletop sculptures, designed to capture and showcase the intricate and visually pleasing forms that can be found within industrial sites. These forms are often seen as eyesores or overlooked by many, but Joseph Robinson aims to draw forward these discarded structures and celebrate their beauty as well as their connection to our industrial past as a collective.

Through precision forging, bending and industrial connections, Joseph captures an artistic interpretation of the skeletal structures that can be found by looking through the mazes of pipelines and infrastructure surrounding industrial sites across England. Joseph aims to capture the negative space as you look through the pieces as well as how the sculptures can change as you view them from different angles, creating a body of work that can always be different depending on how you position the piece and your relation to it. Joseph has also used pure copper elements in these sculptures to not only create a focal point that leads your eyes throughout each sculpture, making it easier to follow the dividing lines of the piece, but also as the sculpture ages as will the copper as it slowly patinas, paying attention to the slowly decaying industrial past of England.
