CLUSTER PHOTOGRAPHY
ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE WINNER 2025

INTERVIEW WITH:

BADE FUWA

Why did the Cluster London residency stand out to you to apply?

I was drawn to the residency because of its strong focus on mentorship, networking, and artistic support. For me,I think these elements are crucial in order to grow, refine my practice, and reach the next stage in my career. Having a platform that provides both creative exchange and professional guidance makes this residency particularly valuable.

Tell us about the work you submitted. What has inspired you thus far?

My inspiration comes largely from nature and our relationship with it. I’m fascinated by the silence of abandoned spaces, forgotten objects, and the way we often neglect the natural world. These moments reflect both beauty and loss, and they influence me to explore themes of disconnection, appreciation, and pollution. My work attempts to bridge this tension and invite viewers to reflect on how we treat the environment.

In what ways does your image-making process align with the residency?

My image-making is deeply tied to storytelling and sharing ideas with a wider audience. The residency provides a platform for visibility, dialogue, and exchange, which directly aligns with my desire to expand how and where my work is seen. It creates the opportunity for my practice to engage with new communities and conversations.

How do you think the cultural immersion of the residency would’ve further developed your project?

London is a global home for art and culture, and being immersed in that environment would have exposed my work to diverse perspectives and critical feedback. The support of the Cluster community would have provided not only creative growth but also a strong network to amplify my practice and push it toward new directions.

What goals would you like to achieve with your work?

My long-term goal is to be able to create work that resonates deeply with audiences through both exhibitions and storytelling. I also wish to balance my practice by pursuing commercial opportunities that complement, rather than interfere with, my artistic vision. These opportunities help sustain my projects financially while allowing me the freedom to continue creating meaningful work that inspires and sparks dialogue around the world.
