GRIT WOLANY
Cluster Photography & Print Exhibitor | AI Showcase | 2025
Her artistic journey evolved from a background in Communication Design and experience at renowned agencies across Europe to a deeper exploration during her Master's in Design at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Her work has been showcased at Photo Schweiz (2024, 2025) and the CVPR AI Art Gallery in Seattle (2024). She was selected for the Pop-Up Film Screenings at the Beyond Human? Symposium at USC, Los Angeles (2024) and the Filmtech Exhibition of the European Film Awards in Lucerne (2024).
Wolany's practice embraces serendipity—the collision of analogue and generative processes—to create unexpected visual narratives. She currently serves as ZHdK's AI Scout while pursuing her independent artistic practice and conducting workshops that engage with the creative potential of AI technologies.
Grit Wolany (b. 1975) is a Swiss Art Director whose practice explores the intersection of generative AI and visual poetry. Her work investigates how algorithms reshape aesthetics and meaning, creating abstract compositions that challenge conventional artistic boundaries while maintaining a strong design sensibility.
“My practice is rooted in the unpredictable beauty of serendipity—the moments where analogue and generative processes collide to reveal something unforeseen. I explore the interplay between human creativity and algorithmic structures, embracing chance.
My explorations examine how emerging technologies transform our perception of art and visual expression. These investigations uncover unexpected formal relationships and visual rhythms, where familiar elements are deconstructed and reconfigured through an algorithmic lens while maintaining a strong design sensibility.”
Visual Artist exploring the field of synthetic media through curiosity, serendipity, and playfulness.
“Beyond the studio, I bring this philosophy into collaborative spaces by leading workshops, teaching students, and engaging in creative discourse around generative AI. Whether through hands-on experimentation or structured randomness, my work is a continuous dialogue with chance, where constraints fuel discovery and imperfections become visual poetry.”
