“FORMS OF REVERENCE”
2026

Mei Wa Lau is a ceramic artist based in Warsaw, Poland. Working primarily with hand-pinched stoneware, her practice is rooted in slowness, touch, and reverence for everyday rituals. Drawn to raw clay textures, earthy surfaces, and the Mishima technique, she creates functional objects that invite presence and quiet intimacy. Her work is deeply informed by personal transformation, motherhood, and a spiritual return to simplicity, where making becomes both a grounding practice and a form of devotion.

"My practice begins with the hands. I work slowly, primarily through hand-pinching clay, allowing each piece to form through touch, pressure, and quiet attention. This pace is intentional. It mirrors the way I am learning to live — with more presence, patience, and reverence for what is small and often overlooked.

I am drawn to earthy materials, raw surfaces, and subtle imperfections. Clay, for me, holds memory: of the body, of time, of what has been held and released. Through simple forms — bowls, cups, vessels — I explore how everyday objects can become anchors for stillness and care. The Mishima technique allows me to mark the surface gently, leaving traces that feel both intimate and restrained, like a whispered gesture rather than a declaration.

My work is shaped by personal transformation, motherhood, and a journey of spiritual returning — letting go of what no longer serves, and creating space for what is essential. Making is not separate from living; it is a way of grounding myself, of listening inward, of honoring the quiet rituals that sustain us.

Each piece is an invitation: to slow down, to hold something with intention, and to rediscover reverence in the ordinary moments of daily life."
