Joana Correia (Portugal) embraces imperfection as a source of strength, seeing jewelry as a medium for transformation and self-expression. Inspired by reimagining heirloom pieces, she creates collections from organic and storied materials, each piece carrying its own narrative.
Her academic journey spans graphic and exhibition design (IADE, Lisbon), an MA in Product Design (London Metropolitan University), an MA in Arts Education (King’s College London), and a PhD in Arts Education (FAUL, Instituto de Educação de Lisboa, FAUP, and Faculdade de Psicologia do Porto). This rich, interdisciplinary background fuels her innovative approach to contemporary jewelry inviting people on a journey of transformation, where their own jewelry—whether made from humble materials or treasured heirlooms—can be reborn as a personal canvas of self-expression.
Since opening her showroom d’ecolife in 2021 in Lisbon, Joana has collaborated with social organizations and showcased her work internationally. Her Silk Cocoon and Orange Peel collections were exhibited at the Silk Museum (Castelo Branco, 2023), followed by Milan Jewelry Week with Artistar Jewels in 2024. Her participation in MAD About Jewelry at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York (May 2025) has recently expanded the reach and resonance of her practice. Her philosophy challenges conventions, celebrates raw beauty, and embraces sustainability as both an artistic and human value.
Joana Correia (Portugal) embraces raw beauty and perceived imperfections as a source of strength, seeing jewelry as a medium for transformation and self-expression. Inspired by reimagining heirloom pieces, she creates collections from organic and storied materials, each piece carrying its own narrative. Her only rule is to begin from existing materials, non-casting them, enhancing their natural properties.
Her interdisciplinary background fuels her innovative approach to contemporary jewelry inviting people on a journey of transformation, where their own jewelry—whether made from humble materials or treasured heirlooms—can be reborn as a personal canvas of self-expression.
Through her organic and repurposed collections, she explores nature’s resilience and adaptability, reminding us that neither life nor jewelry begins from a blank slate. Her philosophy challenges conventions, celebrates raw beauty, and embraces sustainability as both an artistic and human value.
