Dalma Alma Dévényi is a Budapest-based jewellery designer and goldsmith working within contemporary jewellery and wearable object practices. With a background in fashion design and over two decades of creative work under the Je Suis Belle label, her practice evolved from garment-based narratives toward more intimate, material-focused explorations of the body and its gestures.

Her current work investigates jewellery as a conceptual and emotional form, where objects function as extensions of bodily experience more than decorative elements. Drawing, intuition, and material experimentation are central to her process, resulting in pieces that balance between jewellery, sculpture, and symbolic objects.

Recurring themes in her practice include the hand, touch, and bodily memory, through which she explores how gesture can be translated into form. Her work positions jewellery as a subtle language of connection, protection, and perception, grounded in the idea of the body as an active and “democratic” site of meaning-making.

A hand appears where it should not quite belong – holding, pulling, interrupting. Sometimes it behaves like anatomy, sometimes like a trick of perception, sometimes like a mistake that refused to be corrected. It is never only a symbol; it is an action frozen mid-sentence.

The artist works with the instability between what is seen and what is understood. A form may look functional until it reveals itself as a joke. Humor runs through this uncertainty – not as decoration, but as structural misdirection.

For her, body is not a container but a shifting space. Something is always being rearranged inside it. Jewelry becomes a small anatomical event: a kiss, a grip, a pressure point, a playful constraint. Objects behave like intimate games.

There is a surreal logic in this instability. Familiar parts - hands, lips, ears, fragments, holds - return in altered states, slightly out of alignment, as if remembered incorrectly. Illusion is never stable enough to complete itself.

And in this instability, the jewellery itself remains - sometimes holding, sometimes only suggesting that something might still be touched.
