Clare Davis is a freelance illustrator based just outside Oxford in the UK.
Her process led work combines mark making and colour to evoke a sense of emotion and atmospheric space. Clare enjoys using handmade and digital textures to bring her illustrations to life. She loves drawing people and how they interact with each other and the places around them. She also has a real soft spot for nature, often using digital texture to create foliage from other worlds.

Using photographs that she has taken on her IPhone, Clare is then able to use these as a digital reference in her work. Traditional colours are replaced by using some of the rules from the colour wheel and importance is placed on the tonal value of her work.

After studying Illustration with Falmouth University, Clare realised her passion was in colour and this is what crucially drives her work. Her FMP project was studying tonal value in illustration and how this could then be translated into different colours to raise the emotion with her illustration. How can you illustrate blue trees and pink skies?
