”The Living Trace”
Astrid Skagerström Lindau is a Swedish jewellery artist whose work explores the connections between memory, relationships and the natural forms that surround us. She is currently completing her Bachelor’s degree in Jewellery and Corpus at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts & Design in Stockholm. Astrid began her artistic journey in a preparatory metal arts programme, where she developed a strong foundation in materials, technique and craftsmanship. Last spring she spent a semester at Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence, where she deepened her knowledge of traditional jewellery techniques while exploring narrative and symbolism within contemporary practice.
Her work reflects her view of jewellery as both body ornamentation and an extension of the body, reaching beyond material value into artistic and conceptual expression. By combining technical skill with conceptual exploration, Astrid creates pieces shaped by natural gestures and organic detail, crafting jewellery that is visually compelling and intimately tied to emotional value and belonging.
Astrid’s jewellery explores the emotional, conceptual, and physical qualities of objects. Defined by wearability and its connection to the body, her pieces transform materials into forms that carry stories, gestures, and memories. Drawing inspiration from organic shapes, movement and growth, she investigates what gives an object meaning beyond its material value, emphasizing sentimental value and the personal connections it can hold. Her work invites viewers to engage with their own experiences and emotions.
BENEATH THE SURFACE
As an art Jeweler I have a heightened sense of 'the Precious' as a part of my job, and when I turn to sculpture or painting then I contribute a dimension that is often neglected or forgotten: the dimension of the Precious.
Rooted in both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary experimentation, Astrid creates jewellery that becomes activated when worn, reflecting identity, emotion and narrative. For her, jewellery is more than adornment, it is a medium of expression through which she interprets the world around her, translating experiences into forms that hold memories and fragments of personal and shared histories.
Each piece becomes a bridge between the physical and the emotional, combining form, material, and concept to express connection, transformation and belonging. Her work turns jewellery into both personal expression and storytelling, encouraging dialogue between wearer and object where memory, nature and human experience meet.
