”The Living Trace”
Anthia Barboutsis is an art jeweller from Toronto, Canada. She studied Material Art and Design from OCAD University in Toronto, and graduated in 2021. Anthia’s work is rooted in the realm of traditional craft, but often draws inspiration from her Greek and Indian heritage, and from contemporary art and design practices.
Her process blends disciplines with ideas from across academic fields. With her interest in history and philosophy, Anthia hand fabricates her pieces in sterling silver and specializes in merging textile and jewellery techniques to create detailed works of hand woven jewellery.Artistic ceramic pieces more sculptural than functional with rough finishes, very thoughtful pieces created in a perfect workspace, PotteryGym, where he is surrounded by great ceramists with whom he can share, learn and collaborate.
Jewellery by Anthia crosses ornament with purpose, where form meets function and mind meets body. By utilizing the malleable quality of the metal Anthia is able to combine different weaving patterns and techniques with natural forms in nature to create three dimensional structures that push the boundaries of traditional textiles techniques. As an artist, Anthia believes in blending the theoretical and technical aspects of creating, along with the exploration of celebration and rituals, through blooming shapes and structured arrangements, to build a deeper connection and affection with the self.
