AMANDA LOBOS

CLUSTER x THE ILLUSTRATORS’ FAIR : “THE ILLUSTRATION RESIDENCY EDIT”
2026

Amanda Lobos (@maisdeumlobo) is an illustrator and designer from Espírito Santo, Brazil, working across digital illustration, murals, and graphic projects. Her practice investigates an aesthetic rooted in fantasy, detail, and exaggeration as a form of celebration, drawing references from the decorative motifs of fishing boats near her home to medieval bestiaries. Working independently since 2020, she has been recognised nationally and internationally, as a Young Guns 22 finalist and recipient of awards including the Latin American Design Awards and the Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño. Her clients include Google, Adobe, Apple Music, HBO, and Lollapalooza.

Amanda Lobos's work investigates an aesthetic of excess, ornament, colour, and mixture, elaborating critically on the modernist design tradition that associated decoration with error and, historically, with non-white bodies and cultures. Drawing on the concept of chromophobia and the history of Black Experience in Design, she explores how certain visual repertoires were delegitimised while others were institutionalised as norm. From this tension, she creates dense, textured environments populated by anthropomorphic and hybrid creatures, where nature becomes a space of imagination. Her practice affirms exaggeration as a legitimate and ancestral language, one present in popular visual systems across Latin America.
