ADORNMENT

ABOUT

A/dornment is a curatorial integrated project dedicated to contemporary art jewellery. Founded by Ilaria Ruggiero, it aims to develop the knowledge and consciousness of contemporary jewellery as artistic discipline and as ground search for technique, aesthetics and philosophy.

The main mission is to cultivate and stimulate a bigger and wider audience, by developing the knowledge and consciousness of contemporary jewellery as artistic discipline especially towards outsiders of the field and tangibly by making partnership with different organisations for the development of activities and initiatives destined to a broader public.

The letter A has symbolically privative meaning since jewellery is not (just) an embellishment, but it is treated here as artistic element.

Beyond any beauty, ornament or decoration.

ACTIVITIES

Curating & Organising

A/dornment focuses on the study and selection of the best artists who work in the field of international contemporary jewellery and who stand out for their originality, research and innovation. It curates, organises and produces exhibitions, meetings, presentations and workshops on its own or upon commission. A/dornment develops curatorial paths and thematic projects, aimed in particular to the dissemination and growth of this artistic area.

About Volumes
held at Oresi LAB in Venice on 2017, which explored the theme of volumes, conceived as a creative exploration and challenge of space by the forms, and declined on several subjects, expressed through multiple techniques, as well as treated towards different creative directions from various artists and designers.

Research & Development

A/dornment develops research projects on specific areas of experimental and contemporary art jewellery and can offer scientific and artistic advice to different entities and organisations like artists, collectors, institutions, museums, galleries, shops, concept stores which want to approach this world with different goals, such as: the creation of an exhibition, the insertion of pieces within their programming and offer, or just the enhancement of existing collections.

IRONICALLY ICONIC
Unexpected design for expected uses held at Brera Site, during Milan Design Week 2017.
An exhibition in which the most sophisticated production and creative techniques wear original forms, sometimes weird and funny, that ironically represent modern customs and traditions. Formal icons and everyday objects, apparently conventional, reveal themselves in the wonder and surprise of the unexpected. Not a mere formal game but rather the result of a reflection on the unconventional use of objects, materials, decoration that offers the opportunity to gain an insight and unprecedented cross-over design.

Communication & Consulting

A/dornment favourites the connection between two dimensions of jewellery: the creative side with the distribution and public fruition, in a field whose rationales are still poorly defined and audiences in constant development. Communication, network development and strategy are tailored for artists who want to enter the field and promote their work or simply a project or a specific collection.

Vitraria Gallery
Adornment collaborates with the Nani Mocenigo Palace Hotel for the development and curatorship of Vitraria, a gallery dedicated to the promotion of contemporary jewellery and applied arts.

The Gallery is dedicated to designer-led artistic design that has its roots in traditional craftsmanship and, blending the excitement of history with the fascination of creation, is a space in which artists and designers present their personal research dedicated to wearable creations and much more.

Located on the evocative ground floor of the Nani Mocenigo Palace Hotel, the gallery aims to be an exhibition platform for both local and international artists, encouraging a mutual exchange around the evolution of traditions linked to glass and other artistic disciplines.

It produces temporary group and personal exhibitions, as well as presenting an exclusive selection of one of kind pieces characterised by unprecedented technical and aesthetic research.

Art, tradition and originality are the unifying elements of all of the hotel’s floors and spaces, and which committed to stimulating and promoting passion for research, design, and the world of glass in all its forms, actively supporting craftsmanship and independent creativity.

Vitraria Gallery is curated by Adornment – Curating Contemporary Art Jewellery.
