Arturo Algo is a Panamanian visual artist and graphic designer. The work he has been exploring for the last few years is inspired by the memories and nostalgia of his trips to the interior during the 1990's.

My work is based on the admiration, study and practice of Panamanian popular graphics, especially those of the interior of the Republic. I’m inspired by a wide variety of applications, including the painting of chivas and buses, the signs for dances, restaurants and grocery stores, commercial billboards and road signage, and graffiti and street art. I enjoy urban compositions produced by chance, where characters, media, color and texture clash, and where wear, traditions and the language of commerce transform, coexist and react to the tropical condition.

These references are fragmented and combined in compositions where solid colors and perfect gradients coexist with fragments of lettering and typographic elements and with the shapes and textures of the exuberant tropical vegetation of our country, all finely and meticulously painted. My pieces speak of memory and nostalgia, and celebrate the beauty of the trivial and of things half-seen out of the corner of one’s eye when driving along the Pan-American Highway.
